MUSKOGEE, OKLAHOMA - Warren Douglas Vann, 39, of Stilwell, turned himself in to the United States Marshal’s Office in connection with a homicide in Adair County that occurred on Saturday, October 19 and was under investigation by the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service. Vann is currently in Muskogee County Jail.A warrant was issued for Vann’s arrest on Friday, October 25 for first-degree murder charges in the death of Billy Dean Johnson, 42, of Stilwell.
Johnson was at his home in the Cherry Tree community along with his wife and two sons when the assailant entered the home and began firing a 22-caliber firearm. Johnson suffered multiple gun shot wounds and was dead when the Cherokee Nation Marshals arrived on the scene.
“We (the Cherokee Nation Marshals) were on the scene is less than five minutes from the time we received the call of shots fired,” said Sharon Wright, captain of the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service.
The assailant fled the scene on foot. Neither Johnson’s wife nor sons witnessed the attack.
