TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Heritage Center will offer a college level class in Cherokee history this summer. This 10-week course, called the Cherokee Clemente course, will begin on May 27 and conclude on July 29. It will meet on Monday nights from 6 to 8 p.m. and will be offered for two hours of college credit in humanities through the University of Science and Arts of Oklahoma."The course is a Cherokee centered educational opportunity where the Cherokee language, history and culture are all interwoven through the learning experience," said Marilyn Craig, marketing director for the Cherokee Heritage Center.
This course will focus on the Trail of Tears period of Cherokee history. Class size is limited to twenty students. Books and childcare will be provided, as well as money to cover driving costs. Special consideration will be given to those who may not otherwise attend college.
