TAHLEQUAH, OK - The last day to purchase an engraved brick to be laid in the sidewalk around the historic Cherokee Nation Capitol in downtown will be Friday, May 31. Construction on the brick sidewalks, part of a project known as the Cherokee Nation Walk of History, will begin in early June.

The Walk of History is a sidewalk renovation project around the Cherokee Capitol. Working together with the city of Tahlequah, the Cherokee Nation is placing 40 granite stones into new brick sidewalks surrounding the old Capitol Building in downtown Tahlequah. Engraved upon 15 of these stones will be the names of each of the Principal Chiefs of the Cherokee Nation; another 15 will commemorate historic events in Cherokee History. The remaining ten blocks will be left blank for Cherokee Nation’s future leaders and accomplishments.

The Cherokee Nation still has a limited number of bricks available to be placed around the large granite stones. Bricks can be engraved with three lines of text and up to ten spaces per line. Bricks are $20, $100 and $250, depending on their location.

The money raised by the brick sales will go directly toward completion of the Walk of History around Capitol Square and for beautification of the courthouse. For more information or to place a brick order, contact Tera Shows, phone: 918-456-0671 (ext.2542) or Paulette Thomas, phone: 918-456-0671 (ext.2541) or toll free 1-800-850-0348 or visit the Cherokee Nation website.
