OKLAHOMA CITY, OK - A delegation of the Cherokee Nation’s elected leaders met with state legislators and Lieutenant Governor Mary Fallon in the state Capitol on Tuesday, April 30, which Governor Frank Keating proclaimed "Cherokee Nation Day".Principal Chief Chad Smith and his staff discussed several topics with the Lieutenant Governor including roads projects and car tag compacts.
"It's just good public policy to have an open door, government-to-government relationship with the state of Oklahoma", Smith said.
The Senate and the House of Representatives recognized the Cherokee Nation during their respective sessions and thanked them for attending.
"We are very proud to have the Cherokee Nation represented here in the Capitol", said Speaker of the House Larry Adair, before introducing Smith.
Many of the Cherokee Nation’s programs had booths set up in the Capitol Rotunda all day to provide information to legislators and staff.
