TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation Talking Leaves Job Corps recently received high scores in a monthly grade card from the Department of Labor, earning the top ranking of any Jobs Corps in Oklahoma."This is quite an honor", said Joyce Rose, independent living manager at Talking Leaves Job Corps (TLJC). "It is almost unheard of for a small Job Corps center like ours."
The Cherokee Nation TLJC is ranked #1 among Job Corps centers in the state of Oklahoma and placed highly in the national rankings as well. Job Corps centers are graded on the percent of students that complete the program, graduate job placement, student job placement, and the average wages that graduates earn.
"The Cherokee Nation is committed to preparing young people for careers in today’s economy", said Principal Chief Chad Smith. "The students and staff at Talking Leaves deserve tremendous credit for this achievement.
Cherokee Nation TLJC offers students the opportunity to earn a certificate in one of the following fields: Business Office Technology, Health Occupations, Electrical Wiring, Culinary Arts, Facilities Maintenance, and Materials Handling. Students may also earn their GED while enrolled if they enter the program without a high school diploma. Talking Leaves also provides on-campus housing for students and accommodations for students who wish to pursue a degree at Northeastern State University while enrolled in the Job Corps program.
