TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation Marshal Service and the Stilwell Police Department combined to seize a meth lab in Stilwell. Officers found and seized finished methamphetamine products, meth in other stages of the manufacturing process, and marijuana."I just can’t say enough good things about the Marshals, they always help when we need them", said Lonnie Butler, Stilwell Police Chief, who asked the Cherokee Nation Marshals to assist with the suspected meth lab as part of the cross-deputization agreement with the Cherokee Nation.
Stillwell police had received tips from community members that there was a possible meth lab in the residence, and had conducted an investigation of the property before calling the Marshal Service to assist. The residence was adjacent to a bar and in close proximity to the Stilwell Police Department.
Three Cherokee Nation Marshals arrived on the premises accompanied by Chad Smith, Stillwell Police Officer. The marshals said they could smell meth upon arrival. The occupant consented to a search of the residence. Upon entering the home, the marshals found a well-established, fully operational methamphetamine laboratory, meth ready for distribution and marijuana.
The suspect, who was home at the time, has been charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, possession of drugs with intent to distribute, possession of a firearm while in commission of a felony, possession of marijuana, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
"This is just an example of cooperation between the Cherokee Nation Marshals and the Stilwell Police Department", said David Roberts, director of the Cherokee Nation Marshal Service. "We are glad to be able to assist them with the protection of the citizens of Stilwell."
