Tamara Davis, Sequoyah High School's Valedictorian for 2002.

TAHLEQUAH, OK - Tamara Davis has been selected as Valedictorian and Amanda Ott and Cameron Kessinger have been selected as co-salutatorians of the 2002 graduating class of Sequoyah High School.

Davis, 19, of Tahlequah, is the daughter of Thomas and Roberta Davis. She is co-editor of the Sequoyah High School newspaper, National Honor Society President, Member of the Oklahoma Honor Society, and represented Sequoyah High School as a delegate to Girl’s State. She has been accepted to Oklahoma State University where she will pursue an undergraduate degree in pre-veterinary science. Upon completion, she hopes to apply to the OSU School of Veterinary Science to become a veterinarian.

Ott, 18, of Foyil, is the daughter of Rick and Denise Ott. She is a member of student council, National Honor Society, editor of the school yearbook and is concurrently enrolled in classes at Northeastern State University. Ott has been active in softball and basketball and was selected as the Connors Basketball Tournament Most Valuable Player. She plans to major in photojournalism or graphic design and hopes to attend either Connors State College or Southwestern University and play basketball.

Kessinger, 19, of Tahlequah, is the son of Terry and Viola Anderson. He is enrolled in the Oklahoma School of Science and Mathematics, a member of the football team, and a Cherokee Nation Fire Dancer. Kessinger hopes to attend Northeastern State University and major in Engineering Physics before entering an Ivy League school. He is a residential student at Sequoyah and works as a math tutor in the dorms.

Graduation ceremonies are scheduled for May 17, 2002 at the Sequoyah High School gymnasium.

Sequoyah High School "Home of the Indians!"       Sequoyah High School, an Indian boarding school, originated in 1871, when the Cherokee National Council passed an act setting up an orphan asylum to take care of many orphans that came out of the Civil War. Sequoyah High School's approximate 300 enrollment represents 42 tribes and 14 different states. Students are eligible to attend if they are members of federally recognized Indian tribes or one-fourth blood descendants of such members.
