Tahlequah, Oklahoma - Cherokee Heritage Pottery will move to Porum, signaling expansion and growth of the program. Closing papers were signed Wednesday, March 13 at the new location. This was a day of closing as well as new beginnings. Howard Plunkett, previous owner of 25 years and members of his family gathered with members of the Cherokee Heritage Center, and other officials to sign the bill of sale, exchange keys and toast to this commemorative day.
Pat Stewart, director of Cherokee Heritage Pottery, is very excited to be in Porum, with a retail shop and a vast working space for creating and making pottery pieces. This new location is much bigger, surpassing in size the old location in Tahlequah.
After the key exchange with Howard Plunkett and Mary Ellen Meredith, president of the Cherokee National Historical Society, Inc., the closing day ended with Plunkett and Meredith pushing a cart into the kiln. It was a transitory and emotional moment as it was Plunkett's last time and Meredith' s first. Employees of Cherokee Heritage Pottery have high hopes about this new location and the expansion of their pottery line, products and sales.
