TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation is seeking entries for it's 50th annual Cherokee National Holiday parade. The parade is scheduled to begin at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, August 31.
Businesses, private organizations, and public organizations are invited to participate in the parade with floats, vehicles, marching bands or groups. Entries should emphasize the 2002 Holiday theme "Building One Fire." Judges will award trophies to the best floats, bands and organizations for first, second and third place trophies.
The parade check-in will begin at 8 a.m. at the corner of Crafton and Oklahoma Streets. The parade route will begin at Grand Avenue and Crafton Street, just north of NSU Student Union Center, and will proceed south on Muskogee Avenue, ending at Choctaw Street and Muskogee Avenue.
Official entry forms can be picked up at the Cherokee Nation Human Resource department. For more information, call 918-456-0671 (ext.2559). The deadline for entries is August 26. The Cherokee Nation celebrates the Cherokee National Holiday every year over Labor Day weekend. The theme of this year's celebration is "Building One Fire." This is the 50th Anniversary of the Cherokee National Holiday, which is expected to bring more than 80,000 visitors and Cherokees to Tahlequah. The annual holiday commemorates the signing of the Cherokee Nation Constitution of September 6, 1839.
