STILWELL, OK - Cherokee Nation employee, Youlanda Cain, recently received a local award. The Stilwell Soroptimist Club awarded Cain the "Women Helping Women" award In recognition of her service to promote recognition of women's issues.

"Many times, Youlanda is the voice on the other end of the line when a woman finds out that she has had an abnormal Pap test or mammogram. She is compassionate, knowledgeable and caring. Her heart is in her work and it is evident," said Julie Erb, director of the Cherokee Nation Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.

Cain has been working with the Cherokee Nation as a Licensed Practical Nurse for over 15 years. For the past five years she has worked directly with women in the Cherokee Nation communities as a Cancer Case Manager for the Breast and Cervical Cancer Early Detection Program.

"Because of her hard work, many women have been diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer in early, rather than late stages, which has proven to be life saving. Youlanda is an angel in disguise for many families and will continue to see women through the Cherokee Nation Wilma P. Mankiller Health Center and Indian Health Service system for hopefully many more years to come." said Erb.
