Tahlequah, OKLAHOMA - The Cherokee Heritage Center hosts "Cherokee Saturday" on Saturday, February 2, 2002. Members of all federally recognized Cherokee tribes, which includes; the Cherokee Nation, Oklahoma, The United Keetoowah Band, located in Oklahoma, and the Eastern Band of Cherokees, located in North Carolina, will be admitted free to the Heritage Center. Each tribal member can bring a guest.
"This is an exciting weekend at the Cherokee Heritage Center for several reasons," stated Marilyn Craig, Marketing director. "We would like for everyone to come out and see our newly redecorated gallery and museum shop."
The Cherokee Heritage Center will open three brand new exhibits this weekend -- the Sam Watts-Kidd Art Show, the Cherokee Clans Exhibit, and the Sequoyah Exhibit. The exhibits were made possible with assistance from the Oklahoma Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
There will also be an opening reception for Sam Watts-Kidd on Saturday from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. Attractions include the Trail of Tears Exhibit, the Ancient Village, Heritage Farms, and Adams Corner Rural Village. The Cherokee Heritage Center is open Monday through Saturday from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Sunday from 1- 5 p.m.
