TAHLEQUAH, OK - Cherokee Nation joins the American Dietetic Association (ADA) in sponsoring this year’s National Nutrition Month® (NNM) campaign, titled 'Start Today for a Healthy Tomorrow'. Celebrated each year in March, the campaign is designed to focus attention on the importance of making informed food choices and developing sound eating and physical activity habits. The Cherokee Nation Food Distribution Program and the ADA suggest using the Food Guide Pyramid as a 'roadmap' in the journey to eating a variety of foods, using moderation when selecting portion sizes, and balancing food choices over time. "Eating healthy, physical activity, and making wise lifestyle choices can benefit people of all ages", said Bud Squirrel, Food Distribution Program Manager. "We encourage everyone to try new foods and new physical activities."

The Program has been in operation for 18 years and serves an average of 12,000 participants each month.
