TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation Tribal Council confirmed the re-appointments of three members of the Cherokee Nation Port Authority Board during a meeting highlighted by the performance of the Cherokee Nation Children’s Choir.

The choir, the Tribal Council and Principal Chief Chad Smith and Deputy Chief Hastings Shade received plaques from Tahlequah’s Cimarron Sound Labs in honor of the choir's second CD release.
Smith and the Council then recognized four more employees who aced a language proficiency exam, George Wickliffe, Sue Thompson, Jennie Terrapin, and Harry Oosahwee.
"Sometimes we need to take a few minutes to honor generations of people that keep our language and culture strong", Smith said.
The Council confirmed Dick Mayo, George Underwood and Jess Sixkiller serve on the Port Authority Board, and Janelle Fulbright as a Gaming Commissioner. All four were re-appointed to those positions by Smith.
In other business, the Council passed a resolution authorizing the Cherokee Nation Family Assistance Department to seek further funding for the eleven elder nutrition sites currently operated in the Cherokee Nation. The Council also passed a resolution approving a blanket authorization to purchase restricted/trust property for the Cherokee Nation.
