TAHLEQUAH, OK - The 50th Cherokee National Holiday 5K Run will be held Saturday, August 31, on the east side of the Cherokee Nation Tribal Complex, located 3 miles south of Tahlequah on Highway 62.

Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and the run will begin at 7:30 a.m. The 5K Cherokee National Holiday 5K run is a United States of America Track and Field (USATF) certified and sanctioned event.

"This event is expected to draw its largest field ever", said Darrel O’ Field, run coordinator. "The event also includes a one-mile Fun Run and the popular Clydesdale-Filly weight division for 5K entries."

The pre-registration entry fee for the 5K run is $15 and the pre-registration entry fee for the Fun Run is $12. Participants can pre-registration through Friday, August 23. Race day entry fee for the 5K is $18 and the entry fee for the Fun Run is $15. The Cherokee Nation will give commemorative edition t-shirts to the first 350 entries.

The Cherokee Nation will also award trophies to the top three finishers in the 5K run, and mugs to the top finishers in each age group in the 5K run, top three finishers in the Fun Run, and the top three finishers in the Clydesdale-Filly 5K in selected weight groups.

The Holiday Run is held as part of the Cherokee National Holiday that is celebrated every year over Labor Day weekend. The theme of this year’s celebration is 'Building One Fire". The annual Holiday commemorates the signing of the Cherokee Nation Constitution of September 6, 1839.
