TAHLEQUAH, OK - Three contestants will be participating in the Miss Cherokee Leadership Competition, at 7:30 p.m., on Friday, August 16, in the Community Meeting Room of the Restaurant of the Cherokees.

The public is invited to attend this annual event, designed to identify youth leadership and select a goodwill ambassador for the tribe, said event sponsors.
Amanda Chair of Stilwell, Krista Muskrat of Tulsa and Kristen Smith of Tahlequah will demonstrate their knowledge of Cherokee culture, history and language and will showcase talents such as basket making and storytelling. Scholarship awards are $1,000 for second runner up, $2,000 for first runner up and $3,000 for Miss Cherokee 2002.
Chair is a student at Northeastern State University studying speech language pathology, and is the 20-year-old daughter of Perry and Lisa Chair Jr. of Stilwell. Muskrat is the 18-year-old daughter of Terry and Mara Muskrat of Tulsa. She is studying public relations at NSU. Smith plans to attend college to study psychology. She is the daughter of Wanda Smith of Tahlequah.
