TAHLEQUAH, OK - If sweating through a two hour, outdoor drama in the August heat is not your idea of an enjoyable evening, you're in luck. The Tsa La Gi Amphitheater, venue of the "Trail of Tears Drama," recently installed a new cool mist system to keep guests cool and comfy while they enjoy the show. This cool mist system features five 36 inch, high pressure, oscillating fans, that spray a gentle mist of water over the theater.
"These fans spray a very fine mist that dissipates before it hits the ground," said Patrick Whelan, producer of the drama. "Depending on the humidity, it can drop the temperature anywhere from eight to ten degrees. People, on a very hot night, can now experience relief if not refreshment."
In addition to the five misting fans, which are mounted on the roof of the theater, four 24 inch, portable fans have been brought in to further cool guests.
"Two of the portable fans have been placed in the rain shelter and two of them are near the stage area to cool the audience sitting in the front and the actors," Whelan said.
"A cooler theater is only part of what attracts audiences to this 1,800 seat amphitheater that comes to life with theater and dance as this incredible drama unfolds," said Marilyn Craig, marketing director for the Cherokee Heritage Center.
The American Bus Association has named the 'Trail of Tears Drama' one of the Top 100 Events in North America, and the Tsa La Gi Amphitheater has been recognized as one of America's most beautiful outdoor theater venues.
"The 'Trail of Tears Drama' is a touching story filled with pageantry, wit, music and folklore. Audience members will be moved while they relax under the night sky and enjoy the cool mist system as they become a part of Cherokee history," Craig said.
The 'Trail of Tears Drama' will run through Labor Day weekend every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at 8 p.m. Ticket prices are $15 for adults, $7.50 for children and students, and $13.50 for seniors.
