This year's event, titled ''Get The Vote Out In 2002'' is a Cherokee Nation-wide event to ensure that tribal members are registered to vote in the state of Oklahoma.
"The Cherokee Nation will work to get our voice heard by educating our people to go vote in 2002, we can make an impact that elected officials will remember", said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. "During the 2000 election cycle, Cherokee voters played a key role in local, state and federal elections throughout the Cherokee Nation and we are focused on having our voters turn out in even greater numbers this year."
Voter registration forms will be available in all field offices and clinics throughout the Cherokee Nation’s fourteen county jurisdictional area.
The Cherokee Nation will also be sponsoring candidate forums throughout the election season, so that tribal members are armed with the facts when heading to the polls.
