TAHLEQUAH, OK - Julie Leach of Locust Grove has earned the honor of Junior Miss Cherokee for 2001-2002. Leach was picked from a group of eight talented young women competing for the title.

Leach won the academic and essay awards in the competition. Other participants included Leticia Flynn of Sallisaw, who won the talent award; Amanda Cookson of Cookson who won the best traditional dress category; Renee Mink of Stilwell, who was voted Miss Congeniality and second runner-up; Kathryn Vann of Watts, who earned first runner-up honors; Kandice Washington of Tulsa; Nekesha Dirteater of Welling and Brook Templeman of Tahlequah.
