TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Heritage Center will host Turtle Island Blues featuring Blues Nation and the Blackhawk Blues Band. The concert is September 22 at 8:00 p.m. at the Tsa La Gi Amphitheater. It is one of four special concerts in the "Cultures From Around the World" series on Saturday evenings in September at the Cherokee Heritage Center.Blues Nation's sound is gritty and authentic. In 1999, the group earned a nomination from the Native American Music Awards for "Best Blues Recording." Blues Nation is comprised of Tom Ware, Dusty Miller, Obie Sullivan, Sonny Klinekole, and Terry Tsotigh.
The Blackhawk Blues Band was formed in 1990. They have played for the Oklahoma Blues Society's ( OBS) annual Blues Convention in Oklahoma City for the past five years. They have also hosted the monthly OBS meeting, special events, weddings, private parties and many other benefits. Band members are Batiste Jones, Cecil Gray, Melvin Scott, and Al Garcia.
