The award will be presented during Principal Chief Chad Smith's State of the Nation address. This award is only given out sparingly, and it is a great honor to receive it.
"The Cherokee Nation established the Gadugi Award to honor individuals, families, or groups who put the Cherokee people first by engaging in an act or actions, which protect, preserve, and promote the well being and legacy of the Cherokee People."
I participated in the nomination process and I am as thrilled as he his about his upcoming honor.
The award will be presented at 6:00 p.m. on Monday, October 15, 2001 in Tahlequah, the Capitol of the Cherokee Nation, Oklahoma.
Please join me in my pride for my kinsman, and one who has taught me so much , just like the Uncles of our ancestors, who taught the younger ones the ways of our People.
