TAHLEQUAH, OK - Patricia Hawk, director of the Cherokee Nation’s Community Health Nursing program, recently joined a statewide task force promoting children’s health. Hawk was appointed to the by Larry Adair, Speaker of the Oklahoma House of Representatives.Hawk was one of twelve members appointed across the state to serve on the Task Force on the Promotion of Children’s Health. The purpose of this task force is to raise awareness of the problems surrounding the incidence of obesity in today’s children. Members of the task force will also work together to determine ways to encourage schools to offer more appetizing nutritious foods for their students. The task force will promote reducing obesity through better nutrition and physical exercise.
Hawk, who has been an employee of the Cherokee Nation since 1990, is a tribal member who currently works as the interim director of Cherokee Nation Emergency Medical Services as well as the director and advisor of the Cherokee Nation Community Health Nursing Program.
