TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation Early Childhood Unit staff has announced that they are taking applications for Child Find within the Head Start and Early Head Start Programs for children ages birth to 4-years-old who have been identified as having special needs.

Child Find is an ongoing effort to educate the community about Cherokee Nation Head Start's commitment in meeting the needs of special needs children, and available services.

The tribe’s Head Start and Early Head Start Programs offers educational services plus other comprehensive services to children ages 0-4 with disabilities.

Cherokee Nation Head Start and Early Head Start ensures children with an ongoing source of continuous, accessible health care and begins the process of identifying children with disabilities or developmental delays with a series of developmental, sensory, and behavioral screenings.

Information gained from assessments is used to individualize the program for all children.

For more information about Child Find or to enroll a child with a disability, contact Carla Hatfield for the Early Head Start, and Ramona Drew for Head Start at the Early Childhood Unit office, phone: 918-458-4393.
