TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Heritage Center will present the Tahlequah Tease Music Showcase Saturday, June 9 at 8:00 p.m. Admission for the show is only $5 per person. This concert will showcase local musicians with styles ranging from jazz to new pop and from Delta blues to Alternative rock. Seven groups are set to perform including Junior Markham with Bobby Parker, Matt Kohl, John Hoff and guitar virtuoso Leo Feathers; Eddie Glenn; Donny Duree with Jerry Stevens and Bobby Trapp; Ross Johnson; Kathleen McCay; Oklahoma Wildlife with Neicey Dunham, Joel Finch and Debbie Duvall; the Strawberry Smellgoods: Nick Duvall, Ian Brewer and Danny Roland. In the late 1800's, Tahlequah was noted for its fiddle players. The same holds true today, as Tahlequah boasts more than its share of talented artists, with guitars replacing the fiddles in keeping with our times.
Of the 14 or so performers in the music showcase, well over half are of Cherokee descent, including blues master Junior Markham and Leo Feathers. Feathers, a guitar virtuoso who has been fighting cancer for the past year, is hoping to appear with Markham if at all possible.
These artists are not only talented musicians and singers, but songwriters as well, and they will be performing mostly original works. The artists range in age from teenagers to grandparents and work as photographers, writers, land surveyors, students as well as professional musicians. Their musical styles are just as varied.
"It might be called the ‘Tahlequah Tease’, but no kidding, there are so many talented musicians that come from Tahlequah and Green Country", stated Marilyn Craig, marketing director for the Cherokee Heritage Center. "Oklahoma is fertile ground for music and some of the best music in the world is born and nurtured here. There is such a wide range of music presented in this show, there should be something for everyone's musical taste."
