"Bootlegger Blues"

Tahlequah, Okla - The Cherokee Heritage Center will present a comedy featuring the Tulsa Indian Actor's Workshop entitled "Bootlegger Blues" on Saturday, June 23 at 8:00 p.m. at the Tsa La Gi Amphitheater. Admission is $10 for adults and $5 for children and students.

The story is set on a Canadian Indian Reserve and follows the plight of a church going, tee totaling mother who finds herself stuck with 143 cases of beer after a church fundraiser fails. She decides to bootleg the beer at a powwow to the horror of her family in this fast and furious romantic situation comedy. It is directed by Nancy Scott-Fields, and the production design is by Shan Goshorn. A Cherokee from North Carolina now living in Tulsa, Goshorn is known locally for her art, including the Mayfest 2000 poster, and photography.

The playwright is Drew Hayden Taylor, Ojibway from the Curve Lake First Nation. A writer of many disciplines, Drew has produced works for television, movies and theatre, has written short stories, commentaries, essays, and whatever else he can get paid for. He has also taught workshops in scriptwriting/playwrighting for Native people and visible minorities.

"Bootlegger Blues" is sponsored by the Oklahoma Arts Council and the Bama Companies. The Cherokee Heritage Center is located in Tahlequah. Take Highway 62 to Willis Road and turn east. For more information, call the Cherokee Heritage Center, phone: 918-456-6007 or toll free, 888-999-6007.
