TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Annual Little Miss and Mister Cherokee Contest will be held August 7 and 9, 2001, as part of the Cherokee National Holiday. The contest will be held in the W.W. Keeler Tribal Council Chambers.

The contest for boys and girls ages 4-5 and 6-7 will be held on Tuesday, August 7, 2001 and boys and girls ages 8-9 and 10-12 on Thursday, August 9, 2001. Registration will take place at 5:30 p.m. and judging will begin promptly at 6:00 p.m. Contestants will be judged on Cherokee attire, Cherokee History/traditions and knowledge and poise and personality.

A male and female winner and first and second runner up will be chosen in each age category. The crowning ceremonies will take place immediately after the competition and refreshments will be served. The judges’ decisions will be final.

A copy of the child’s Certificate Degree of Indian Blood (CDIB) card must accompany the registration form. Parent’s CDIB card will not be accepted. Registration forms are available at the W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex.

Registration fee is $5 and personal checks will not be accepted. Entry forms must be completed and postmarked or hand-delivered no later than 5:00 p.m. on July 27, 2001. Send to Barbara Williams, c/o Pageant Coordinator, P.O. Box 948, Tahlequah, Oklahoma 74465.
