TAHLEQUAH, OK - In honor of National Children’s Dental Health Month, February 2001, the Oklahoma Area Dental Disease Prevention Committee will soon unveil a project to help increase awareness about the importance of healthy teeth.The project will include billboards of children showing their healthy smiles and will read "Oklahoma City Area Indian Health Service, Helping To Make Healthier Smiles." Six to eight posters will be placed on billboards throughout Oklahoma in February. Lucas Russell of Tahlequah and Sydney Brewer of Adair were selected to represent the Cherokee Nation in the campaign. One of the billboards will be placed on Hwy. 62 north of the Cherokee Nation Complex, near the new EMS building.
Children were selected for the campaign from various dental clinics throughout the Oklahoma Area based on age and if they were cavity-free at their last dental visit. In Stilwell, Wilma P. Mankiller Health Center dental staff members are participating in the project. Lucas Russell of Tahlequah and Sydney Brewer of Adair were selected to represent the Cherokee Nation in the campaign.
