TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation, Oklahoma, (HACN) announced that it closed eight loans during December at the recent Board of Commissioners meeting.Four loans were closed under the Mortgage Assistance Program and four were closed under the Mortgage Buy Down Program. There are also 27 loans pre-qualified pending property approval.
Other resolutions passed at the HACN Board Meeting include:
The establishment of a policy to provide Homeownership Insurance coverage through the Community Shield Program as offered by Amerind Financial Services. The program will provide fire and extended coverage and content insurance to be pre-paid by the HACN and reimbursed by the family on a monthly basis. Monthly premiums are estimated to be $21.00.
Approval of the establishment of criteria for Indian Housing Authority (IHA) Homeownership Financing. Staff is currently developing procedures and the full program will be announced at a later date.
Approval of the appropriation of funds, in the amount of $1,130,000 to be used in the development of an elderly housing project if funding is secured through low-income housing tax credits.
Authorizing an application to be prepared to form a 501(c)3 Non-Profit Entity.
A resolution passed, presented by Billy Heath, Secretary of the Board of Commissioners, appropriated $118,000 for start-up costs of an employee training center. This will be created in a partnership with Cherokee Nation to develop a facility that can be used by employees of the HACN and Cherokee Nation.
"This training center will save travel costs and reach more employees," said Ron Qualls, Executive Director of the HACN.
The Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation Board of Commissioners Meeting is open to the public. The next meeting will be at 5:30 p.m., on Tuesday, February 20, at the HACN Administration Conference Room, located at 1500 Hensley Drive, Tahlequah.
