CNO Offers Cherokee Language Classes

TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation, Oklahoma, Cultural Resource Center will be offering Cherokee Language classes in ten locations in northeastern Oklahoma this spring. The classes are open to anyone interested in learning to read, write and speak the Cherokee language.

"The Cherokee Language Classes get the community together to renew friendships while learning the Cherokee language", said Sammy Still, Cherokee Nation Community Involvement Specialist. "Learning the Cherokee language gives individuals the opportunity to teach the Cherokee language to their children."

Cherokee Nation's Language classes will last 10-weeks and will be held one night per week. All teaching materials and classes are free to the public.

Cherokee Nation Cultural Resource Center will hold Cherokee Language Classes at the following locations:

Stilwell: Cherry Tree Community Sports Complex, 4 miles south of Stilwell on Hwy. 59, Stilwell, OK Thursday, February 22, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Lost City: Swimmer Baptist Church-2 miles east of Lost City School on Killabrew Rd. Thursday, February 22, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Webbers Falls: Webbers Falls Head Start Center, 404 Gibson St., Webbers Falls, OK Tuesday, February 20, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Jay: Delaware County Library, 429 S. 9th St., Jay, OK Monday, February 19, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Salina: A-Mo Salina Health Clinic, 900 N. Owen Walters Blvd., Salina, OK Tuesday, February 20, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Claremore: Claremore Senior Citizen Bldg., 116 N. Missouri, Claremore, OK Thursday, March 22, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Tulsa: All Tribes Community Church-2501 E. Archer, Tulsa, OK Tuesday, February 20, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Big Cabin: Big Cabin Head Start Center, 333 Oak St., Big Cabin, OK Tuesday, February 20, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

South Coffeyville: Emmanuel Chapel Pentecostal Holiness meeting hall 510 Seminole at South Coffeyville, OK, Tuesday, February 20, 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Contact the Cherokee Outlet Indian Organization 316-251-8766.
