DELAWARE COUNTY, OK The Cherokee Nation held formal dedication ceremonies for the Stand Watie Road project last week in Delaware County. The 3.6-mile road project serves the Butler and Whitewater communities, as well as, the Stand Watie historical burial site.

The Cherokee Nation spent an estimated $900,000 on the construction costs for this road project. The project is part of the Cherokee Nation’s $20 million investment in roads for northeastern Oklahoma.
Melvina Shotpouch and Barbara Starr-Scott, Cherokee Nation Tribal Council members representing Delaware County, joined Council Member John Ketcher and members of the Cherokee Nation Roads program staff at the dedication ceremony.
