Tahlequah, OK - The Cherokee Heritage Center is announcing a call for entries for the 2001 Homecoming Art Show. The event is sponsored by Bank of America and the Oklahoma Arts Council. $5,000 in prize money will be awarded to the winners.
Participation in this show is limited to artists age 17 and older who have membership in a federally recognized Cherokee Tribe. Art must have been completed after July 1, 2000. An exception is made for bronze castings to allow casting no earlier than January 1, 2000 provided original sculpting was not completed prior to January 1, 2000. Artists may submit up to three entries per category.
Categories for the show include: Visual Arts - Paintings, Graphics, and Sculpture; Photographs; Basketry; Jewelry, Metal-smithing and Beading; Pottery; Textiles; and Traditional Arts. Each category will award $625 in prize money. The show will open on October 20, 2001. All entries must be received by the Cherokee National Museum by 5 p.m. Saturday, October 13, 2001. There will also be a dinner honoring Cherokee Master Craftsmen on Opening Day, October 20.
