Tahlequah, OK - Popular television and film actor Larry Sellers plays Stand Watie, one of the principal leads in the Cherokee Heritage Center's Trail of Tears Drama. The drama runs Thursday, Friday and Saturday evenings through Labor Day Weekend with a special performance on Sunday, September 2, 2001 at 8:00 p.m. Tickets for the drama are $15 for adults and $7.50 for children and students. Larry Sellers, a native Oklahoman of Indian ancestry (Osage, Cherokee, and Lakota), is an accomplished actor, educator, historian and spiritual leader. He is an acclaimed actor, in film and television, starring as "Cloud Dancing" in the highly praised Television series "Dr. Quinn Medicine Woman"; Wayne's World II; Crazy Horse; Walker Texas Ranger; Beverly Hills 90210; Lightning Jack; Like Father Like Son; General Hospital; Life Goes On; Quick and the Dead; Gambler III, Crime Story; and Hawkeye to name a few of his credits. Larry has 22 years tenure in the industry not only in acting venues, but as a technical consultant as well. Industry experts have called on Larry for knowledge in translating, as technical advisor and for stunt work.
Larry as an educator and historian was chosen nationally as a Fellow at the Newberry Library Center for the History of the American Indian, located in Chicago. Larry has served as a consultant to the Arizona State Department of Education, Indian Education Program and the Arizona State Department of Alcohol and Drug Abuse in association with the Phoenix Indian Medical Center Rehabilitation Program incorporating Traditional Medicine. As an associate of T.K. Wolf and Associates, Inc., (an Education Consulting and Counseling Firm), he had the opportunity to present on cultural issues with the firm that offers psychological, cultural and philosophical approaches to individuals and corporations as well.
With a background in stand up comedy and improvisations, he has served as master of ceremonies at national and regional functions, for native and non-native events and organizations. Most notably he was invited to MC the President and First Lady's Literacy Program and Reading is Fundamental, and served as a national spokesperson for the front. In his spare time, Larry has been working with the Osage Tribe in Oklahoma, where he has been called upon to present "Parenting with Traditional Values" workshops.
