TAHLEQUAH, OK - Sequoyah High School recently announced end of year honors for the Senior Class of 2001. Dariene Lazore has been recognized as the Valedictorian, Lena Byrd and Kendal Perry-Leach received the Co-Salutatorian honors. The top 10 seniors are Jason Santana, Daniel Chewey, Mary Butler, Sarah Stopp, Jennie Washington, Amanda Washington, Amanda McKee and Summer Sugar.

These students will be honored for their dedication to academics at this year’s graduation. Graduation is scheduled for Friday, May 18, at 6:30 p.m. on Thompson Field.
“We are extremely proud of the academic excellence the students exhibit,” said Tony Pivec, Sequoyah High School Superintendent.
Dariene Lazore, is a member of the St. Regis Mohawk tribe of Indians. She has attended Sequoyah High School for two years is the president of the HOPE Club (Honoring Our People’s Existence), Vice-President of the Drug-Free Youth Club, FCCLA (Future Career and Community Leaders Association), Student Council, Speech Team and Academic Team. After graduation Lazore plans to attend the University of Ottawa in Canada.
Sequoyah High School is an all-Indian school run by the Cherokee Nation. SHS serves local students as well as residential students from other parts of the country that want to take advantage of Sequoyah’s fine all-Indian environment, small class sizes and personal attention.
