PUMPKIN HOLLOW, OK - Just like most Easter egg hunts, Pumpkin Hollow’s annual Easter extravaganza has plenty of boiled, plastic and candy eggs. But participants also need a flashlight, because when the sun dips low, it’s time for the Easter egg show in Pumpkin Hollow.

More than 50 members of this Cherokee County community, and visitors including the Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation, met Wednesday night for their annual egg hunt.

At dusk, the adults began to hide the eggs over 150 eggs for the children. The nocturnal nature of the hunt makes for some interesting scenes as children try to handle a flashlight, a basket, and eggs all at the same time. The adults on hand could not contain their laughter.

After the youngsters get finished with finding the eggs, they hide them for the adults. More than ten adults participated in the hunt for the over 25-age group, vying for prize eggs, and of course, pride.

"We have been doing this for three years now and it keeps getting better and better," said Jodi Reese, a Pumpkin Hollow community member. "It seems the adults have more fun than the kids."

After the hunt, the convoy created another light show as they headed up the road for a potluck supper. At the dinner, children received prizes for retrieving the most eggs and each participant got an Easter basket for they’re hunting efforts. The Principal Chief and Deputy Chief of the Cherokee Nation and family members of the Pumpkin Hollow community pitched in to provide the baskets.
