CNO Doctor to Speak at Conference

TAHLEQUAH, OK - Cherokee Nation Behavioral Health Services Director John Gastorf has been invited to speak at the Fourth Annual State wide Multicultural Conference in Houston, Texas, October 11-13, 2000.

Gastorf is a respected authority on Native American populations and mental health. The topic of his keynote address is "Learning How to do Culturally Sensitive Counseling with Native Americans—a Process not an Endpoint."

In addition to his keynote address, Gastorf will lead a breakout session during the three-day conference entitled, "Morbidity and Comorbidity of Substance Abuse and other Mental Disorders among rural and urban Native Americans."

The theme of the three-day conference is "Diversity: Cultural Links that Persevere." The conference is sponsored by the Texas State Department of Mental Health in partnership with the Mental Health and Mental Retardation Authority of Harris County.
