TAHLEQUAH, OK - Cherokee Nation’s executive directors donned plastic aprons and stood, spatulas in hand, ready to serve lunch at employee appreciation day. Hundreds of the Cherokee Nation employees walked through their lines, though some studiously avoided getting food from their boss.

"I don’t want him anywhere near my food," joked Andy Quetone, eyeing Todd Enlow, the gravy-stained director of Cherokee Nation’s information systems.

At the lunch, employees received T-Shirts and pins encouraging them to vote on Election Day, November 7. They were also given a CD featuring Cherokee gospel music, including some songs by the Cherokee National Choir. The choir also performed live during the event.

"Our employees do a great job year round," said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. "Today’s events are just a small way to say thank you for your dedicated service every single day."

In November, the Cherokee Nation will hold employee meetings in Tahlequah and in field sites around the 14 county area. At those meetings, the Cherokee Nation will honor employees who have given five, 10, 15, 20, 25 or 30 years of service. Employees at the luncheon watched a video which gave special recognition to all employees who have been with the nation for those milestone periods of time.
