The Miss Cherokee Scholarship Pageant will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 5, 2000 in the Fine Arts Auditorium at NSU. The deadline for filing an application is 5:00 p.m., July 14, 2000.The role of Miss Cherokee for the Cherokee Nation is a representative position meant to provide the Cherokee public with a tribal member who personifies Cherokee virtues, talents, and attributes. To the general public she embodies those same qualities and also serves as a goodwill ambassador, cultivation friends for the Cherokee Nation and appreciation for its history and culture.
To be eligible the candidate must be 18 to 24 years old, must have a high school diploma or equivalent and must be at least 1/4 Cherokee blood quantum, with proof of CDIB and Tribal enrollment. The candidate must never have been married (civil or common law) and childless. Must be able to fulfill Miss Cherokee obligations of travel and personal appearances.
