CNO Marshals Assist in Capture of Delaware Escapee
Monday, June 19, 2000

Cherokee Nation Marshals were involved with the local authorities in the search for nine Delaware County Jail escapees. About five days after the escape, Dallas Thompson, one of the fugitives, called Marshal James Redcorn and expressed his trust in the Marshal and wished to give himself up. Marshal Redcorn picked up Thompson, who has relatives in the northern part of Adair County, and took him to Hastings Indian Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries he received while escaping. Marshal Redcorn then returned Thompson to the Delaware County Jail.

CNO Marshal Receives BIA Physical Fitness Training

Marshal Danny Tanner, a Cherokee Nation Marshal from Jay, has just completed a two-week physical fitness training course at the Federal Indian Police Academy in Artesia, New Mexico. The training will permit Marshal Tanner to set up fitness programs and perform tests required by the BIA for the Marshal Services. The physical tests are required of the Marshals twice a year. They include running 1 1/2 miles, agility run, bench press, and a stretch exercise. Marshal Tanner came to the Marshals from the Jay Police Department and has 4 years experience as a supervisor in the Emergency Medical Services. This training will permit the Marshals to perform their tests without the aid of the BIA.

Marshals Help in Capture of Suspect Wanted for Questioning in a Murder

Roland, OK - The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma Marshals assisted Federal and local authorities in the capture of a U.S. Marine wanted for desertion and questioning in a murder case. Jason Ragsdale was wanted for questioning in connection with a homicide that occurred the day he disappeared from a military base in California. Two Naval Criminal investigators, two FBI agents, two Sallisaw officers, and the Sheriff and Under Sheriff of Sequoyah County accompanied Marshals Leonard McMillan and Franky Dreadfulwater to Sequoyah County. After a search, officers arrested Ragsdale at a home in Roland. The suspect cooperated with the authorities and was returned to the custody of the Naval Investigators. The Marshals and FBI Agent Dion Francis have been searching for four months for the suspect. Ragsdale has spent some time in Cherokee County.
