TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma (CNO) plans to host a series of seven forums for candidates running for county, state and national office in northeastern Oklahoma.

A forum for the 2nd District candidates will be held Thursday, July 25, at 3:30 p.m. in the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma Tribal Chambers, Tahlequah, Oklahoma.

In addition to Democrats Carson, Settle and Wilson, those announcing for the post include Libertarian Neil Mavis of Tulsa and Republicans Jack Ross of Haskell, Steve Money of Broken Arrow, Terry Gorham of Big Cabin, Eric Troutt of Sapulpa, Andy Ewing of Muskogee, Tennie Rogers of Tulsa and Mark Detro of Sallisaw.

"District 2 representatives serve over half a million people," said Chad Smith, the CNO's Principal Chief. "Indian people make up over 21 percent of this population and tribes are the largest employers in the district."

Chief Smith said that the forum will give the congressional candidates an opportunity to share their view on American Indian issues.

The CNO announced that forums for candidates for county and state offices will be held in August.
