CNO's Youth Leadership Interns Finish Assignments

Tahlequah, OK - A few of Cherokee Nation of Okalhoma's youngest employees will be leaving soon, as the Cherokee Nation Youth

Leadership Intern Program comes to a close on Friday. The program is a component of the Employment & Training Supplemental Youth Employment Program. The participants have the opportunity to become familiar with the Cherokee Nation Tribal government and administrative functions.

As a part of the program, participants are given the opportunity to learn decision making and leadership skills by participating in the judicial, legislative and executive branches of the Cherokee Nation government while also informing themselves about Cherokee history, language and culture.

After two weeks of orientation and activities the interns were placed on full time jobs within the Cherokee Nation. Interns have participated in a beautification project at the Cherokee Heritage Center and "Kids Camp" at the Cherokee Heritage Center.

On July 21, 2000 the Interns will have their farewell luncheon at the Restaurant of the Cherokees.
