TAHLEQUAH, OK - Young children with special needs now have an opportunity to learn and grow through the Cherokee Nation Of Oklahoma Early Childhood Unit's Child Find program. Cherokee Nation's Head Start and Early Head Start are now taking applications for Child Find, which is a program to help children ages birth to 4-years-old who have been identified as having special needs.Child Find is an ongoing effort to educate the community about Head Start's commitment to meeting the needs of special needs children, and the availability of services to meet those needs.
The tribe's Head Start and Early Head Start Programs offer children age 0-4 educational services as well as other comprehensive services.
Cherokee Nation's Head Start and Early Head Start programs provide an ongoing source of continuous, accessible health care for youngsters. The program also screens children for developmental, sensory, and behavioral challenges so the process of identifying children with disabilities or developmental delays is well underway early in the year.
Head Start staff will use information gained from assessments to individualize the program for each child.
For more information about the Child Find or to enroll a child with a disability, contact Stephanie Lucas at the Early Childhood Unit office at (918) 458-4393.
