The Housing Authority of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma (HA-CNO) submitted a successful application for federal funding, claiming the funds for Southeastern Oklahoma. The federal funds will be leveraged with funds from other sources to construct 10 homes. The HA-CNO intends to construct energy efficient brick homes to be available to very low and low-income individuals and families. This funding announcement is being made in conjunction with the Rural Housing Service's celebration of 50 years of providing housing opportunities and building dreams for rural Americans.
"In 1999 the Rural Housing Service created more than 70,000 new homeowners through all of their home ownership programs and has empowered 1.8 million people to buy homes," USDA State Director Charles P. Rainbolt said. "The Single Family Direct Loan program has contributed to what is now the highest percentage of Americans owning homes in the nation's history."
