TAHLEQUAH, OK - The community is invited to display historic Cherokee family photos from the 1800s through 2000 at the 48th annual Cherokee National Holiday September 2-3. The theme of this year’s Holiday is "A Cherokee Family Reunion".Photos will be on display on the second floor of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma Courthouse September 2-3, 2000 and then at the tribal complex through September 15, 2000.
"These pictorial histories will celebrate Cherokee families from various communities during the Holiday", said Margaret Raymond, who is organizing the event.
Participants are asked to display photocopies rather than original documents. The Cherokee Nation’s Cultural Resource Center will help enlarge documented photos to at least 8 by 11 inches. Name of subjects and the approximate date should accompany each photocopy. Participants should not display valuable artifacts.
