OWASSO, OK — The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma Marshal Service entered into a cross deputization agreement with the Tulsa County Sheriff’s Office and the Owasso police department Tuesday, August 22, 2000 at 10 a.m. at the Owasso police department headquarters.

Cherokee Nation Marshals will now be able to assist the Sheriff's Office and deputies will have law enforcement jurisdiction on restricted CNO land.

The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma is currently seeking to enter into cross deputization agreements with all law enforcement agencies within its 14 county jurisdictional area. Muskogee and Delaware counties recently signed cross deputization agreements with the CNO.

"I can't see any down side", said Dave Roberts, director of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma Marshal Service. "We are pleased to be able to cooperate with and assist other law enforcement agencies. We should be considered an asset and a resource by the 14 counties in our area. We're basically providing the counties we cross deputize with extra manpower and expertise at no cost."
