TAHLEQUAH, OK - Well-known Cherokee artist Dorothy Sullivan will display her paintings during a reception at 3 p.m., August 24, 2000 in the main lobby of Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma complex.

Sullivan will hang 12 paintings in the hallways of the tribal complex where they will be on display throughout September. Some of Sullivan's personal collection of Cherokee artifacts will also be on display, many of which she has depicted in her paintings, in glass cabinets outside the entrance of the Cherokee First office.

People wishing to buy a Sullivan painting may contact staff of the Cherokee First program, whose office is located in the main lobby of the complex.

Sullivan has won numerous awards for her work in the last 10 years. Most of her paintings depict her Cherokee heritage and are carefully researched. Her most recent awards include being named the “Honored One” at the 1999 Red Earth Festival, and Best of Show at the 1999 Five Civilized Tribes Museum art show.

On Saturday, September 2, Dorthy Sullivan will be in the lobby of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma Gift Shop and Restaurant where she will have limited edition prints of her paintings and her new 2001 calendar for sale.
