TAHLEQUAH, OK - The Cherokee Nation Holiday Run is accepting pre-registration entry forms for the 8km run on Sept. 2. On Sept 1., the final day for pre-registration, organizers will accept applications between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. at the main tribal complex in the health services conference room. Pre-registered runners will pay $12, which includes a race T-shirt. Entry fees on race day will be $15.This years Cherokee Nation Holiday Run consists of an 8km competitive run and a 2-mile run/walk. The start and finish lines will be at the Sequoyah High School softball field. Registration begins at 6:30 a.m. and ends at 7:15, Saturday, Sept. 2. Both the 8km run and the 2-mile run will begin at 7:30 a.m.
The course for the 8km run and the 2-mile fun run/walk will be the scenic, gently rolling hills surrounding the Cherokee Nation W.W. Keeler Tribal Complex.
Age groups are 12 and under, 13-15, 16-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, and 65 and over.
Trophies will be awarded to the first overall male and female finishers. Age groups winners will receive an inscribed medallion for the first three places.
Teams of three or more runners can compete for first and second place plaques. The school with the most participants in the 8K run and the two-mile fun run/walk also will receive a plaque. Commemorative ribbons will be given to all finishers in both events.
Fun run/walk merchandise awards will be presented to the oldest participant and youngest participant. The family with the most members participating, and the participant traveling the furthest distance to enter also will receive awards.

TAHLEQUAH, OK - The deadline for entries in the Cherokee National Holiday quilting contest is 3:00 p.m., August 31, 2000. Quilts will be on display in the Greg Glass Community Building in Tahlequah between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 2, 2000.The event is an open quilt, viewer's choice contest, in which visitors may vote on their favorite quilts. Votes will be counted at 4:00 p.m., and winners will be announced shortly thereafter. Winners will receive ribbons and honorable mention ribbons.
