TAHLEQUAH, OK — The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma will host two more candidate forums this week, featuring candidates running in Cherokee and Adair County races. On August 3, the Cherokee Nation will host forums for candidates in Cherokee County races at the Council Chambers in Tahlequah and for candidates in Adair County races at the Wilma P. Mankiller Clinic in Stilwell. All forums run from 3:30 to 5 pm and will be open to the public.

"These forums give candidates an opportunity to address issues that are important to Cherokees,” said Chad Smith, Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation. “There are nearly 13,000 enrolled Cherokees in Cherokee County, and nearly 10,000 in Adair County."

The Cherokee Nation and it’s instrumentalities employ nearly 3,000 people and have expenditures totaling more than $350 million annually.

On August 10, Sequoyah County candidates will meet at the Redbird Smith Clinic in Sallisaw. On August 17, the Cherokee Nation will host forums for Delaware County candidates at the Sam Hider Clinic in Jay and for Mayes County candidates at the AMOS Clinic in Salina. State senate and representative candidates will have their own forum at the Council Chambers on August 10.
