The Trail of Tears Art Show opens on Saturday, May 15, 1999, at the Cherokee Heritage Center in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. The show will open with a benefit and the Cherokee Honor Society will be presenting several awards. The art show is scheduled to run for 3 weeks.

The following are among the award recipients: singer, songwriter and actress Rita Coolidge; movie actor Wes Studi; opera singer Barbara McAlister; country music promoter Jim Halsey; film producer Valerie Redhorse; television and screen actor Tom Allard; songwriter John D. Loudermilk; sculptor Bill Glass Jr.; art patron Alice Timmons; and the founder of the Cherokee National Historical Society, Marty Hagerstrand.
