The Native American Law Students Association, the American Indian Law Review, and the Indian Law & Policy Center of the University of Oklahoma, will be hosting a forum for candidates running for Principal Chief, Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma (CNO).The forum will be held at the University of Oklahoma College of Law, 300 Timberdell Road, Norman, on March 31, 1999, at 8:00 p.m.
Several candidates for Principal Chief have already indicated that they will be attending. All citizens of the CNO and all other interested persons are invited to attend.
This should present an excellent opportunity for those interested in Indian law and tribal government to learn more about the election procedure of the state's largest tribe.
On the same evening, at 6:00 p.m., the Native American Law Students Association will be hosting its annual fund raiser taco dinner. The cost of the taco dinner is $6 which includes the meal and the entertainment. The entertainment will feature traditional dancers and drums.
Directions: From I-35, take the Highway 9 east exit (approximately 1/2 mile north of the South Canadian River Bridge). Turn north on Chautauqua Avenue (approximately 3 miles east of I-35). After one mile, turn right on Imhoff Road. Turn left on Asp Avenue (first left past the baseball stadium). Continue on Asp for about one mile and take the first left past Kraetli Apartments.
