Wes Studi, internationally acclaimed Cherokee actor, muscian and artist will be hosting a 'Cherokee Art Auction and Reception' in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma. The event is being held on behalf of Chad "Corntassel" Smith and Hastings Shade.
Chad Smith, Cherokee Attorney and legal historian, is running for Principal Chief of the Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma (CNO). Hastings Shade, a bilingual Cherokee, is running for Deputy Chief of the CNO. Shade was designated a "Living Treasure" by Principal Chief Wilma P. Mankiller in 1991,
There will be an unveiling of special limited edition copies of the "Cherokee Phoenix" by the late Willard Stone. Additionally, more than 25 well known artists have contributed to the auction.
The event begins on Saturday, March 13, 1999 at 7:00 p.m. and is being held at the Holiday Inn in Broken Arrow, OK, in the Cherokee Room. (Located: Broken Arrow Expressway & South 145th.)
