Tahlequah, OK - Ian Skorodin and Orvel Baldridge, President of NAITCA (Native American Indian Talent & Casting Agency) producers of "Tushka" a full length feature film premiered early this year at the Sundance Film Festival, have been informed of acceptance in a second prestigious film festival.Festival Director, Giulio Scalinger contacted Tushka producers Ian Skorodin and Orvel Baldridge Friday to inform them that "Tushka" has been accepted as a finalist in "The Reel Frontier Film and Video Compeition and will be screened in Tucson, Arizona during the 1998 Arizona International Film Festival (April 16-26).
Ian Skorodin's feature film, "Tushka", ranks among the year's groundbreaking Native-made dramatic features. Based on actual events during the 1970's, the film is set during the period when the FBI waged a COINTELPRO campaign against civil rights efforts may be organizations such as the American Indian Movement and the Black Panthers. A raw, compelling story, "Tushka" tells of government corruption, Indian defiance, and the power of the human spirit. --Heather Rae
( Sundance Film Festival Official)"Tushka" starring Bobby Eades, Tim Johnson, Orvel Baldridge and other Indian actors and actresses from the Tahlequah area had it's first showing in Oklahoma last evening at Northeastern State University. Producers say that calls are coming in from many parts of the country asking for special showings of the film. "Tushka" is intended for theatrical, public broadcast, and educational distribution. The producers are currently working on scheduling and distribution.
